At IFA 2017, Acer has revealed the most powerful to date gaming desktop, Acer Predator Orion 9000. it is the newest addition to the Predator lineup after they released the most powerful gaming laptop, Predator 21x, a few months ago. The most amazing thing we get know about the gaming beast is that it will support up to 18 core processors with 36 threads and 4-way graphics.
Acer is teasing the Orion 9000 series as the “Power You Can See“. For the specs, it will support up to Intel’s i9 7980XE Extreme Edition processor and 4 Radeon RX Vega graphic cards and up to 2 GTX 1080 Ti’s in SLI. However, I don’t think that the I9 will please most of the gamers out there because it hasn’t shown much superior performance than the regular i7-7700k. Although for the content creators and those who are looking to use it as a workstation it is definitely one of the most powerful choices available in the market right now. One more thing that describes it’s brute power is that it can also support up to 128 GB quad-channel DDR4 memory.
For the design, the Predator Orion 9000 feature a black-and-silver spacecraft-like exterior with customizable RGB lighting along the sides of the front bezel. It comes with a large windowed side panel that showcases the powerful interior with a latch on top for accessing the inside. Tool-less side panels make the upgrades easier and the fans can be replaced by pushing the top open.
To keep this beast cool even in the most heated situations, Acer uses Liquid Cooling and IceTunnel 2.0 technology. IceTunnel 2.0 is nothing but an advanced airflow management system that cleverly separates the system into several thermal zones, each with an individual airflow tunnel to expel heat. Up to 5 120mm fans are available at the front, back, and top channel to channel cool air through the chassis while the Metal Mesh panels on the front and top drives the rising hot air outside the CPU.
One punch overclocking enables users to select turbo performance modes with a single press of a button. For the connectivity, it comes with two USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports (one Type-C and one Type-A), eight USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports (one Type-C and seven Type-A) and two USB 2.0 ports (Type-A). It also has 3 M.2 slots for storage and 4 PCIe x16 for Graphics.
There are no indications about the detailed specs and the configuration options that are going to be made available after the release.
Price and Availability
The Predator Orion 9000 will be will be available in North America in December with prices starting at $1,999, and in EMEA in November starting at €1,999.
So, $1999 doesn’t sound much when we have already seen a $9000 gaming laptop earlier this year. Let’s just hope it will provide enough configurations to distinguish between the needs of gamers and content creators.
